Hello Fellow Marketer,
My daughter got my wife to join her in making a few TikTok dance videos... and right away they went supernova viral and became stars. (You can see one of their videos here and another here.) Look at these numbers:
1.2 million views on two of the videos. 242,000 likes on the above shown video alone, not to mention 4,946 shares. But it’s the love expressed in the 1,368 comments that reveals the intensity of their fanbase’s devotion...
“The duo we didn’t know we needed.” “OMG please never end this.” “The content I signed up for.” “These videos make my entire day.” And on and on.
They built a brand, in a couple of days and on a budget of $0. They could have monetized this. But uninterested in fame, they instead just happily moved on with their real lives.
They rode a popular wave, and they have talent – but the marketing-related takeaways for me are: I think they stood out because 1) they were an original phenomenon, and 2) they were dripping with unpretentious authenticity.
