Hello Fellow Marketer,
I began my ad career on Madison Avenue, and the relationship between marketers and creatives was often a bit adversarial. So I started a Marketers vs. Creatives LinkedIn group for some honest discussion between the two camps.
Here’s a sampling of past thoughts from the group (now defunct):
A marketing member confessed that creative for creative’s sake (instead of nailing the strategic problem) is where agencies can fall flat. Another member wondered why many creatives don’t show up on time or take notes during a meeting – dang.
A creative member suggested that a marketing brief which perhaps exposed some vulnerablitilty could help win over the creative team – what a nice thought.
I’m a creative, but I’ve done a little marketing as well, which I suppose has helped me better harmonize with the other side.
