Does good design really matter?

Hello Fellow Marketer,

I bought this doormat, but I had to return it. The unrefined typography was killing me. See all that extra space after the “W”? A good designer would kern (adjust) the letterspacing to close that gap.

For marketing materials, strategy is critical... and strong copywriting is essential... but is good design and typography really that important?

I want to say yes, though I’ve never done an A/B test on this.

Still, I remain committed to the art of crafting beautifully designed marketing pieces – and my work consistently outperforms other (oftentimes ugly) creative against which it tests. So I’ll keep obsessing about how things look, down to the spacing between letters.

I believe good design and attention to detail come through (like with Apple’s great-looking marketing) and helps communicate perceived value in the product offering.

Best,
-Todd
