Hello Fellow Marketer,
“Bang” is slang for “exclamation point.” I saw the below when booking an online golf tee time and noticed how every line ended with a bang. The writer had several things to say about which he or she felt strongly.
This golf course likely doesn’t have the budget to hire a professional writer. But even if they did, they might still end up with too many bangs.
Exclamation points are a crutch used when a copywriter lacks the perseverance or skill to write sentences as strategically and as powerfully as possible.
Even I find that it takes effort to refrain from using exclamation points. There are times when you want your audience to understand that what you’re saying is especially important. So then why not use a bang? Well...
If you start to eliminate exclamation points, you might notice how the communication at once becomes more subtly persuasive. Aren’t you yourself more receptive to softer-spoken proposals, as compared to those that are yelled?
Best, -Todd
